Hi, I had similar issues with my Windows 7 64 bit laptop & iTunes. I finally have iTunes 10.5.1.42 installed, thanks to a friend who downloaded it to a CD using their Apple laptop. The instal from the CD worked fine, where previous attempts using the direct download did not, despite trying lots of options, like disabling firewall and virus checkers, and using another download manager (Softonic) instead of iTunes.
Softonic downloaded iTunes 10.4 despite my selecting 10.5, and despite it saying it was downloading 10.5. ITunes 10.4 installed successfully, unfortunately I needed 10.5 to update my iPhone OS. When I previewed the iTunes 10.5 download (downloaded using iTunes), using 7-zip, the message 'broken file' appeared next to each file in the 7-zip screen.
So it looks like the issue was with a corrupt download. Once I installed iTunes 10.5.1.42 from the CD I went to upgrade my iPhone OS using iTunes and my Windows 7 64 bit laptop, but guess what.corrupt download of the iPhone OS file. So the same friend upgraded my iPhone OS using their Apple laptop. I then synch'd the iPhone with my own laptop.
